Healing For Your Soul
by Ann Robinson-Worley
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 1:2 The English word soul is traced back in the Hebrew as a word pronounced nay-fesh, which literally means a breathing creature. It can be translated as soul, life, person, mind, heart, creature, body, himself, yourselves, dead, will, desire, man, themselves and appetite. In the Greek it is a word pronounced psoo-kay, which means life's breath or breathing and is translated as soul, life, mind and heart. According to the Holy Scriptures, a soul is a living, breathing creature that eventually dies. The condition of your soul is very important to God.
What does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 10:12 Here we see that it matters to God how we serve Him. Our soul plays an important part in this service. Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine: the soul that sins shall die. Ezekiel 18:4 The condition of our soul determines if we will have life or death. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? Matt 16:26
The condition of your soul determines if you will bring forth fruit or if the word will not produce or cause a change within you. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. Matt 13:22 God delights in bringing comfort to your soul. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:2-6 O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Psalm 30:3
The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned. Psalm 34:22 For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:37-39
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21
May the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 RSV It is God who is able to sanctify us and keep our soul and our body holy and blameless so that we will be ready when the Lord Jesus Christ returns.
We are able to prosper in our soul by meditating on the word. My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all your flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22 Here we see that by attending to the Word day and night and keeping it in the midst of our hearts we can have life and divine healing in our bodies. In today's economy when the price of prescription drugs has increased so much that people cannot afford them this is good news!
No matter what illness you are experiencing if you keep the word in the midst of your heart it will bring you life and healing in your body. The word for health in Hebrew is marpê’, which means “medicine.” You can consider speaking the Word over your life as taking daily doses of God’s medicine. Jesus said , " It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. Deut 8:3
It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matt 4:4 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:32-35
Jesus said , "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10 Since God’s words are life and health, the more you dwell on God’s words and thoughts, the healthier and stronger you’ll become spiritually, emotionally and physically. Attending to God’s Word heals, cures and profits you it causes you to have a sound, tranquil, relaxed mind. It delivers you from calamity, is a remedy for what ails you and refreshes both your body and mind.
